MOVIES UNDER THE STARS DC neighborhoods break out big screens for primo movie viewing on summer nights. MOONLIT MONUMENTS The grandeur of the National Mall only increases when the sun goes down. Go for a leisurely stroll past the Lincoln Memorial and Jefferson Memorial, or book a night tour with Big Bus Tours, Bike and Roll DC or Old Town Trolley Tours. HOLIDAY GETAWAY MEMORIAL DAY Summer’s first holiday brings the renowned National Memorial Day Concert at the U.S. Capitol (May 26), the National Memorial Day Parade (May 27) and the Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally (May 26-27). INDEPENDENCE DAY A Capitol Fourth, the free concert held at the U.S. Capitol, features the National Symphony Orchestra, VIPs and more, and coincides with the fireworks show over the National Mall. A rehearsal is held at 3 p.m. on July 3, for those looking to beat the crowds. LABOR DAY Come check out The Lawn (July 4–Sept. 2), a large-scale installation designed by Rockwell Group and set within the National Building Museum’s Great Hall. MAKE A SPLASH AT DC WATERFRONTS SOUTHWEST WATERFRONT The Wharf is the centerpiece of this bustling area, where adventures span catching a show at The Anthem, dining at hot spots La Vie or Kith/Kin and exploring the historic Municipal Fish Market. GEORGETOWN WATERFRONT Walk, run or bike beside the towpath of the newly restored C&O Canal. Then, check out The Washington Harbour to marvel at its fountains while dining at Farmers Fishers Bakers or Tony & Joe’s Seafood Place.
