Belle Fourche (pronounced ‘bell-foosh’), French for “beautiful fork,” describes the town’s location at the intersection of Hay Creek, the Redwater River, and the Belle Fourche River.
Belle Fourche is the Geographic Center of the Nation, but there’s so much more to this town. Old West fun, outdoor adventure, Western hospitality, and epic photo opportunities will keep you coming back.
Visit the Tri-State Museum & Visitor Center to explore the region’s intriguing history, including early settlements in the corners of South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming. Browse unique items in their gift shop, wander along the River Walk, or attend one of their year-round events for all ages.
It’s a must to stand at the Geographic Center of the Nation during your visit. A striking 21-foot diameter compass rose made of local granite marks the location along the River Walk near the visitor center.
