North Dakota offers diverse biking opportunities for every type of rider. Explore scenic byways and backways (see page 40) for leisurely rides, or tackle more rugged terrain on designated trails. Before heading out, check in with local visitor centers, parks offices, or bike shops for personalized route recommendations based on your interests and skill level.

You can find every level of mountain biking trails in state parks and city greenways. If you’re looking for a challenge, the rugged Badlands, the rolling hills of the Turtle Mountains and the forested trails of the Pembina Gorge should be on your list.

MAAH DAAH HEY TRAIL
The Maah Daah Hey Trail cuts through some of the nation’s most stunning landscapes along the Little Missouri River.
This epic trail spans 144 miles through the Little Missouri National Grasslands — an area covering more than 1-million acres of rugged Badlands between the two main units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.
Nationally recognized for its thrilling singletrack, the Maah Daah Hey Trail offers an unforgettable ride through varied terrain — towering buttes, rolling prairies, and a scenic river valley.
This multi-use trail welcomes hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders, with non-motorized access only. Along the way, U.S. Forest Service campgrounds provide rest stops and potable water.
