Experiences everyone can enjoy around Keystone
IRON MOUNTAIN ROAD
Monumental views await along Iron Mountain Road. This 17-mile stretch of highway is part of the larger Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway, an absolute must while visiting the region.
Cruise along winding pig-tail bridges and through narrow, one-lane rock tunnels for epic views of the Black Hills. Stop for a photo at Doane Robinson tunnel, which is one of three tunnels that frame Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
Iron Mountain Road connects to Custer State Park, where you can continue along the scenic Wildlife Loop.
HORSETHIEF LAKE
Tucked amongst the pines, this area lake is a prime fishing, canoeing, or kayaking spot. A nearby campground offers spaces for tents, RVs, and trailers. The lake is also near hiking trails that conveniently connect to the Black Elk Wilderness Area.

HIKING TRAILS
Hiking is abundant around Keystone. Whether you’re looking for leisurely trails or epic views, you will find a trek suited for you. Check out Blackberry Trail, a one-mile trek with glimpses of Mount Rushmore. The trail connects to the Centennial Trail and Black Elk Wilderness Area.
Wrinkle Rock Climbing Area offers rock climbing access, as well as a scenic hiking loop through the pines and granite spires.
THE HISTORIC 1880 TRAIN
The 1880 Train connects Keystone to Hill City, making it a convenient spot to enjoy the best of both communities.
OLD HILL CITY ROAD
For a more casual drive, take Old Hill City Road from Keystone to Hill City. The curving, two-lane highway runs through the forest and along the historic 1880 Train tracks. The stretch of roadway crosses the tracks 13 times!
