PASO ROBLES, CALIFORNIA PROPERTY EST. 1891 Architect Jacob Lenzen designed the El Paso de Robles Hotel to be “absolutely fireproof” when it opened in 1891; however, that notion went up in flames in 1940, when the hotel burned to the ground. In 1942, the mission-style hotel was rebuilt and renamed the Paso Robles Inn, and in 2000, the hotel and its grand ballroom, the only structure to survive the fire, were restored to their original elegance. Also at that time, the on-site hot springs were re-drilled and redirected so as to convey the healing thermal waters directly into the new guestrooms, which feature luxurious therapy spas. Surrounded by lush gardens and oak trees, the Inn exudes tranquility, but it is just steps away from Paso Robles’ historic downtown district. The springs have been a popular attraction since the late 18th century when Franciscan padres from nearby missions began using them.
